But for everyone who puts the “croaky” into karaoke, there’s someone who manages to blow the crowd away with his or her magnificent voice.
Emcee Les Shapiro, for example, is always a crowd favorite. Who knew Shaun Gallagher (besides his wife, Barb?) of the Solid Gold sponsor Gallagher Family Foundation could give the Chairman of the Board a run for his money? Gallagher chose Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” in honor of their 17th wedding anniversary.
The fourth edition of this benefit for National Jewish Medical and Research Center took place at Mile High Station and was chaired by Rachel Kodanaz and Janice Silver. Rachel’s husband, Taner, heads the sponsoring Asthma Immunology Respiratory Medicine Society at National Jewish.
The 250-plus guests who helped raise $47,000 also included Lisa and Dr. Lynn Taussig; Dr. Michael Salem, who in January will succeed Lynn Taussig as National Jewish’s president and chief executive; David and Charlene Engleberg (he’s chairman of the National Jewish board); Ellen and Mark Schwartz; and Troy Davey, who at age 26 rode a bicycle across America to celebrate the good health he enjoys, thanks to care received at National Jewish.
It’s OK to brag
You can’t blame local members of Delta Sigma Theta for bragging: One of their own, Marcia Williams, has been elected to serve as the sorority’s central regional director. She was feted at a reception at the home of DeVita and Mical Bruce. … Wild Things, the young professionals who support Denver Zoo, are feeling pretty good too, because their annual fundraiser, Brew At The Zoo, raised a record $40,000 for the Red Apple Fund. The fund is used to underwrite the cost of admission for children from low-income families.
