The Log Cabin, one of the first buildings in Colorado Springs, was built by Gov.

Alexander Hunt. It became the station restaurant when the Denver and Rio Grande

railway arrived. In this October 1871 photo, are (from the left) Gov. Hunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt McDowell (Hunt’s daughter), Ed Eaton, Mrs. Helen McDowell Malhern and Major John H. McDowell (Hunt’s son-in-law). The McDowells ran the restaurant.
