Folklorist talks Turkey

Bora Özkök, a folklorist, musician, folk-dance teacher, author, recording artist of Turkish Folk music, and director of Cultural Folk Tours, will give free lectures on Turkey at the Denver Marriott South at Park Meadows in Littleton from 1-3 p.m. and from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on Oct. 15. Quilt show in Burlington

Burlington’s Carousel Quilters’ 10th Anniversary Quilt Show will be 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at the Old Town Museum, 420 S. 14th St., Burlington. More than 50 quilters will exhibit in excess of 200 original quilts. There will be door prizes, quilt raffles and a silent auction. Vendors will have quilt items, including patterns and materials, on hand for purchase. Old farm equipment will be on display. Admission to the show is free. Information at 719-346-8828.

Ghost Walk in Pueblo

Ghoulish tales await the participants of the annual Ghost Walk in Pueblo, 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday and at 4-8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tours will begin every 15 minutes. Beginning at La Placita of the El Pueblo History Museum, there will be 13 stops along the way, with stories and enactments based on historic people, incidents and legends from Pueblo’s past. Tickets can be purchased for $7 at the Ghost Walk or $6 in advance at 719-545-8195. Children under 5 years of age accompanied by an adult will be free. All proceeds will benefit the Pueblo Domestic Violence Community Task Force.

Snowmobile expo

The 20th Anniversary Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Expo runs 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Denver Merchandise Mart in the Pavilion Building, Interstate 25 and 58th Avenue The 2006 snowmobile models will be on view. More than 100 exhibits will showcase accessories and clothing, performance experts, winter resort destinations, all terrain vehicles, recreational vehicles, a variety of winter fun products, avalanche awareness training, and a vintage snowmobile display. The event also hosts the popular Swap Meet Extravaganza. Admission is $6 at the door; children under 12 are free; discount admission coupons are available at bigasalloutdoors.com. Parking is free. Free programs

Changes in Latitude, 2525 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder, is hosting free travel programs. Tuesday will feature a photo journey through Southern Africa; Oct. 11 will showcase an insight into China’s must-see sights; Oct. 18 will highlight the diversities of Patagonia and Argentina; Paddling in Greece is the topic on Oct. 31; and the beauty of New Zealand will be presented Nov. 8. Aspen Bazaar

Aspen’s storefronts will be abuzz with special activities and bargains, live music and entertainment will fill the streets, businesses will stay open longer, and merchants will display their wares throughout the outdoor pedestrian mall today and Monday for Aspen Goes Bazaar. Through Oct. 29, the Aspen Saturday Market takes place every Saturday, 8 a.m. 3 p.m., and features dozens of Colorado purveyors of produce, organic beef and cheeses, as well as fine crafts, chef demonstrations, live music and more. Poking around Durango

Venture to the Historic Strater Hotel in downtown Durango on Friday for the 17th Durango Cowboy Gathering, a celebration of the culture and heritage of the American cowboy. The Gathering is a fun-filled event with evening performances and Saturday daytime sessions. Poets and musicians from throughout the country perform classic and contemporary poems and songs. Performers include Ian Tyson, Terry Henderson, T.J. Casey, Doris Daly, Barry Ward, Yampa Valley Boys, and Sky Shivers. The Cowboy Gathering Dance is at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday with dancing and entertainment featuring Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys. Tickets are $10 in Advance, $15 at the door. The fun starts Saturday with the Cowboy Parade at 10 a.m. beginning at the train depot at Fifth Street and proceeding north along Main Avenue to the La Plata County Fairgrounds at 25th Street. “A Cowboy and His Creator,” an inspirational program of cowboy songs, verse and rhyme with host Sam Noble, is at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
