Scale obsession
James Goltz, 37, of Pueblo has lost 101 pounds in the past 25 weeks on the Weight Watchers plan, dropping his weight to 330 pounds. He hasn’t set a goal weight yet, but he’s looking at about 220 pounds to suit his 5-foot-11-inch frame.
“Everybody wants it to come off quick, to have it be a quick fix. When I first started Weight Watchers, I would lose 10 pounds, 8 pounds, 5 pounds, but then it started to slow down.
I started to get pretty disappointed. I still don’t like looking in the mirror. I’ve got a long way to go.
I’d do everything right for that week, but when I stepped on the scale, and I would have only lost 1 pound, I wasn’t as happy as I was when I lost 5 pounds.
If I gained, I would get angry with what the scale was telling me. My heart would start pounding, and I’d be so upset that I didn’t want to talk to anybody. I didn’t
want to stay for the meeting.”
