New wildlife officers
Want to be a wildlife officer? During October, the Colorado Division of Wildlife will conduct a series of informational seminars across the state toward hiring 14 new district wildlife managers. These sessions will inform potential applicants of minimum requirements, testing procedures and strategies. Candidates must possess a degree in natural resources, biology, wildlife management or environmental science. Meetings will be in Grand Junction on Monday, Gunnison on Tuesday, Denver on Wednesday and Oct. 12, Fort Collins on Oct. 10, Alamosa on Oct. 11, Boulder and Durango on Oct. 13, Pueblo on Oct. 17, Colorado Springs on Oct. 18 and Greeley on Oct. 19. Managing elk
Two public meetings to discuss management of elk in southwest Colorado are scheduled in Redvale and Dolores. The first will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Redvale Community Center, the second 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Dolores Community Center. The sessions will focus on herd status and future management scenarios in Game Management Units 70, 71, 72, 73 and 711, known locally as the Dolores of Groundhog herd.
