With a new history museum,

community ice rink and plans for downtown revival, Greeley greets the new century and honors its utopian roots. This northern Colorado farm town founded as a colony of moral rectitude in 1870 has extended literally and figuratively beyond the feedlots and sugar-beet farms that fueled its early growth. You have until Oct. 15 to experience the old ways at the High Plains at Centennial Village, 1475 A St., a living history center with 32 buildings that shows the architectural and agricultural heritage of the area from the 1860s to 1920s. In the meantime, there’s plenty to be explored in the town that novelist James Michener made famous. – Kristen Browning Blas

From Interstate 25 just north of downtown Denver: Take I-76 north toward Fort Morgan to U.S. 85 north about 38 miles to U.S. 85 Business Route North. Take the business route into downtown Greeley, where you will be on Eighth Avenue.
