A former Washington Redskins running back was arrested by agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency on cocaine charges, officials said today.
Timmy Smith is accused of making hand-to-hand drug deals with an undercover DEA agent.
Smith and his brother, Chris, were arrested on Thursday, following an investigation that began in April. Timmy Smith was arrested after trying to sell a half a kilogram of cocaine to an undercover DEA agent, authorities said. In all, officials say he tried to sell cocaine on seven ocassions to undercover agents.
A search warrant was issued at his residence in Lakewood, where federal authorities said they found 1,300 grams of cocaine and $100,000 in cash.
Timmy Smith had been a youth counselor and also helped coach at football camps in the Denver area.
He is best known for his performance in Superbowl XVIII in 1988 against the Denver Broncos when he was the game’s leading rusher with 22 carries for a record 204 yards. The feat still stands as a Superbowl record.
