16-year-old rams patrol car after chase, officials say
Weld County – A 16-year-old boy led state troopers on a chase and rammed a patrol car Sunday in Weld County, state police said.
A trooper tried to pull the boy over on U.S. 34 at 8th Avenue at 1:03 a.m. when the chase began.
The teen was driving a 2003 Dodge 1500 pickup and went though several stop signs before ramming the patrol car, the patrol said.
Stop Sticks were used to try to stop the truck, but the youth continued to drive on deflated tires before running into a fence.
The teenager was taken to North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley, for treatment of minor injuries and sent to the Platte Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
Authorities said the boy had a separate warrant out for his arrest.
Trooper Eric Wynn said he did not have information on that case.
The boy could face several felony charges because alcohol and drugs are suspected in the traffic incident.
