A Boulder County couple who killed a man who invaded their foothills home and threatened them likely will not face criminal charges in the death.
“Based on the information we have now, we will not file charges,” said Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy late Wednesday.
The actions of Becci Starr, 59, and Scott Mattes, 56, appear to be protected by Colorado’s make-my-day law, she said.
A man who forced his way into the couple’s home west of Boulder claiming to be a police officer was killed in a struggle with the residents. The man, who has not been identified, died of multiple sharp-force and blunt-force injuries, the Boulder County coroner has concluded.
Coroner Thomas Faure said in a statement that an autopsy was performed Wednesday and that the manner of death is homicide.
“We are still working with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department in an attempt to establish his identity,” Faure said.
