Colorado Springs – Air Force scored five goals in the first period Saturday as the Falcons beat Union College 9-2 in the IceBreaker Invitational at the Colorado Springs World Arena.

Five Falcons scored during a first-period flurry that saw Air Force take a 5-0 lead in a span of 8 minutes, 50 seconds.

The Falcons opened the scoring on a goal by sophomore Josh Schaffer at 9:51 of the first period. Air Force scored four more goals before the frame ended, capping the burst with a goal by Billy Devony with 1:19 remaining in the first period.

Eric Ehn led Air Force with two goals, while Brian Gineo and Theo Zacour each posted a goal and two assists.

The Air Force victory followed a 3-1 loss to Maine on Friday.

The Black Bears scored three power-play goals in the final six minutes to foil Air Forces upset bid.

“(Friday) night we really felt like we were cheated,” Air Force coach Frank Serratore said. “But life ain’t always fair. We talked that if we can bring that effort every night, more good things are going to happen than bad. We came out (Saturday) with the same effort and had a better outcome.”

Josh Coyle and T.J. Fox scored goals for Union (0-2), which was outshot 45-24.
