Michelob Marzen

If you’re going to go, go big.

Anheuser-Busch, which owns approximately 50 percent of the American beer market, is proving it can make “micro” beers too.

A-B’s Michelob Marzen walked away with one of three gold medals A-B bagged at the recent Great American Beer Festival.

A-B’s märzen (“March” in German) is one of three craft-style beers the company is releasing this month under the Michelob label. The others are Pumpkin Spice Ale and Pale Ale (which also won a gold).

The märzen is a bronze color with a bountiful malt aroma but is a little light on the full-bodied flavor lovers of the traditional Oktoberfest lagers go for. Extremely drinkable nevertheless.

Bottles of Michelob’s Marzen, Pale Ale and Pumpkin Spice Ale are available only in the 12- and 18-pack Michelob Specialty Ales & Lagers Sampler Collection that also includes Amber Bock, Honey Lager and Michelob.
