Sauna twist claims health benefit
David Floyd is heating up the sauna industry. The president and founder of Lakewood-based LuxSauna is selling an infrared sauna designed to have more health benefits than traditional saunas.
“Infrared heat penetrates deeper and more quickly than any other heat,” Floyd said. “It penetrates to melt fat and gets toxins out of your body. There are many benefits; infrared heat is totally harmless.”
While many claim infrared heat provides health benefits, some doctors say infrared heat is no better than regular heat.
The use of infrared heat is not LuxSauna’s discovery – Floyd says a Japanese scientist invented an infrared heater in 1967 – but Floyd designed the one-person and two-person saunas. LuxSaunas are manufactured overseas and are sold to gyms and individual customers. Floyd said a majority of his customers suffer from health problems such as lupus or cancer. Prices for LuxSaunas start at $1,500. The company, founded in 2003, also has a patent pending for an infrared heating pad.

Digital lookout helps at home
Like to keep an eye on things around the house? Take a peek at the MailboxCam, a wireless remote camera that allows homeowners to monitor their property, inside or outside. The camera was invented by Scott Jezierski, who developed the product for his wife’s grandfather, an 88-year-old who would make several trips up and down the stairs of his apartment building each day to check for mail delivery. Jezierski, president of Wireless Imaging in Lino Lakes, Minn., built a camera that allowed people to check their TV screen to see if mail was in the box.
The MailboxCam sells for $199.95 and can be purchased online at www.wirelessimaging.com or by calling 800-676-3402.
