Neil Stillman, a senior at Legacy High School in Broomfield, returned this month from a six-day National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., where he was a student representative and participant in mock congressional sessions. The conference allows students to interact with personnel who operate within the three branches of government, the news media and the international community.
While at the conference, Neil was invited to attend the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court chief justice nominee John Roberts and met with U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar of Colorado.
Neil is vice president of Legacy High School’s MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) club, which focuses on science-related projects, experiments and field trips. Members also compete in science bowls with other science clubs. He is co-president of the Free Thinkers for Social Justice Club, which helps motivate students about politics. As well as attending the anime and chess clubs, he has participated in the Colorado Science Bowl at the Colorado School of Mines.
Neil has been a participant in the Aspiring College Student program at Legacy for four years. The program prepares students for college and assists with current high school classes while also developing leadership skills.
Neil has taken Advanced Placement classes in world history, calculus and biology. He has a 3.33 grade-point average.
