Old Scratch Amber
Flying Dog Brewery near
Coors Field is proud of its pack of beers named with canines in mind.
The brewery’s Old Scratch Amber is not a purebred; it is an ale/lager hybrid, brewed in the tradition of steam beer, now referred to as California Common, a lager brewed in an ale style. This gives it the color of an amber ale but the lighter flavor profile of a lager, slightly sweet malt flavor with a mild hop finish.
Old Scratch won a gold medal in the amber lager category for the second consecutive year at this year’s Great American Beer Festival. Brewery managers now refer to it as “Gold Scratch.” As do all Flying Dog’s beers, this one features artwork by Ralph Steadman on its label.
Flying Dog also won a GABF silver for its Gonzo Imperial Porter and a bronze for Dogtoberfest. Its beers are available in 12- and 22-ounce bottles.
