Red Rose Café
235 Main St., Palisade
Savor Palisade’s vineyards and expect more than an end-of-day pit stop at the Red Rose Café. Large, fresh portions of shrimp, mussels, clams, white fish, calamari and scallops make the Vietnamese Seafood Delight a perfect topper for a day of touring. Also try the mussels as an appetizer at this cafe, owned by Tom and Rose Casabona. The couple not only offers a surprising combination of Italian and Vietnamese fare but also friendly, conscientious service.
SHOP WITH A VIEW
DisRespectacles Eyewear
1550 Platte St., Denver
Keep your eyes closed until Friday, when the swish New York optical retailer DisRespectacles opens its first not-in-Manhattan store. Heavy on the customer service, the Euro chic store will provide our town with brick-and-mortar access to high-style shades from makers like L.A.-cool Dita, Blinde, Vinylize and ic! Berlin. The shop loves the old-school specs, too. Lots of shelf space in the store is devoted to the display of antique eyewear and optometric equipment. And if you’ve got six weeks to wait, the eyeglass makers say they can rebuild granny’s jeweled cat-eye frames for a modern view.
FOR ROCK-HARD ABS?
Basic Training at Red Rocks
$10, info at denisetryner.com/events.htm
You’ve climbed stairs, shuffled and swayed at Red Rocks. Now add a little running, jumping, a few squats and lunges and you’ve got a full-on workout. Trainer Denise Tryner takes her basic training group – drop ins are welcome – to the outdoor amphitheater every other Saturday at 8 a.m. for an eye-opening 90-minute workout. The spectacular scenery provides a psychic jump-start, and working out on the Rocks proves that you don’t need a fancy gym or expensive gear to get into the fitness groove.
