Alamosa – Scott Coxon threw four touchdowns passes and Adams State completed its first perfect home season (5-0) in more than 25 years with a 43-0 demolition of Panhandle State on Saturday.

Coxon matched Casey Bradshaw’s career record of 5,662 yards and tied Adams State’s NCAA Division II record for career total offense.

The Grizzlies took advantage of ineptitude (nine first downs, 92 total yards) and mistakes (two interceptions, three fumbles lost) by the Aggies (1-8). It was the first shutout for the Grizzlies (5-4, 4-2 RMAC) since Oct. 13, 2001, when they routed Oklahoma Panhandle 53-0.

Fort Lewis 28, Nebraska-Kearney 22

Kearney, Neb. – Matt Gutierrez led the Fort Lewis College offense with 347 passing yards and three touchdowns as Fort Lewis ended the Lopers’ seven-game winning streak.

The touchdowns came on passes of 19, 47 and 4 yards.

Reed Duvall posted 15 tackles and two interceptions, including one for a touchdown on a 76-yard return, for the Skyhawks (5-2, 5-3).

Marcus Goldenstein led the Lopers (7-2, 5-1) with 431 passing yards for two touchdowns. Passes of 61 and 24 yards led to the scores.

Goldenstein also threw three interceptions.

Both teams netted more than 400 offensive yards – Fort Lewis with 409 and Kearney with 498.

Mesa State 22, Fort Hays State 8

Grand Junction, – Bobby Coy rushed for 241 yards and two touchdowns, leading Mesa State College.

The Mavericks (4-5, 3-3) held Fort Hays (2-6, 2-4) scoreless in the first half before giving up a touchdown in the third quarter.

Tyler Johnson kicked a 52-yard field goal in the second quarter, but couldn’t get off either of his two extra-point attempts. He missed the first attempt after Coy’s first-quarter touchdown and had his other blocked after Coy scored a 36-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Mines 45, N.M. Highlands 37

Las Vegas, N.M. – Bryan Florendo ran for three touchdowns and threw a scoring pass, all during the second quarter, for the Orediggers.

CSM (5-4, 5-1) was trailing 10-0 midway through the second quarter, but Florendo scored on a 26-yard run to put his team on the board. He followed with scoring runs of 47 and 2 yards and then completed the touchdown pass to Justin Gallas to give CSM a 28-17 halftime lead.

Florendo finished with 140 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Highlands (1-8, 0-6) was led by Ronnie Simpson, who completed 17-of-32 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns. Ikaika Neizman caught seven passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Chadron State 40, Western State 10

Gunnison – Chadron State sophomore Danny Woodhead ran for 210 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles (3-6, 3-4) ran away from the Mountaineers (1-8, 1-5) in the second half.

Chadron outgained Western 490-325, with 303 of those yards on the ground. J.R. Finley caught a 74-yard touchdown pass for Western and finished with eight catches for 174 yards.

Rhodes College 35, Colorado College 7

Colorado Springs – Rhodes (2-5) scored 35 unanswered points – 28 in the second quarter – for an easy road win over the Tigers (1-6).

CC got on the board first with a 47-yard Scott Green-to-Max Green pass. Rhodes, of Tennessee, answered early in the second quarter with a 50-yard interception return by Brian Steinert, who added an 85-yard interception return with 50 seconds left in the first half. Ryan Childs added touchdown runs of 3, 8 and 4 yards.
