Arvada – Aaron Hernandez’s 38-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter Saturday helped Pueblo South erase an early deficit and beat Wasson 28-26 to take command of the Class 4A Foothills League.
Hernandez also had an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Colts (8-0 overall, 6-0 in league) rallied after trailing 19-0.
Wasson, which dipped to 6-2, 5-1, was paced by Diontea Forrest’s 188 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
ThunderRidge 42, Wheat Ridge 28
Lakewood – Kyle Black’s three touchdowns paced the defending 4A state champion Grizzlies over the Farmers in the Mountain Plains League.
ThunderRidge (8-0, 6-0), which has won 17 games in succession, 13 in the regular season, led 42-14 in the fourth quarter. Black scored on runs of 15, 83 and 3 yards.
Teammate Nick Lind added a 75-yard touchdown run.
Wheat Ridge (5-3, 3-3) was led by Dylan Orms’ 278 yards passing and four touchdown throws.
Dakota Ridge 55, Arvada 35
Arvada – Cody Lunsford’s 139 yards rushing and five touchdowns propelled the Eagles over the Reds in the 4A Mountain Plains League.
Dakota Ridge improved to 5-3, 4-3, as Lunsford scored on runs of 23, 8, 18, 9 and 5 yards.
The Reds are 0-9, 0-7.
Platte Canyon 19, Denver Christian 6
Bailey – J.R. Reynolds’ three touchdowns paced the Huskies to another home upset in the 2A Metropolitan League, this time against the Crusaders.
Earlier in the season, Platte Canyon (5-3, 4-2) knocked off Holy Family.
Reynolds scored on runs of 44 and 24 yards, and caught a 32-yard scoring pass against Denver Christian, now tied with the Huskies for fifth place in the league.
