Croatia

Who: Karl and Barbara Hansen of Brighton

Where: Harbor at Novi Vinodolski, on the Dalmatian Coast.

Best meal: Any local restaurant along the coast will have tasty seafood at a reasonable price.

Best deal: The September Special. We rented a three-bedroom apartment with kitchen, dining room and bathroom for six people at eight euros a night per person. This second-story apartment, 50 meters from the beach, had a balcony and a great view of the Adriatic. Hard to beat that price anywhere in Europe.

Best time to go: This part of the Dalmatian Coast is known for its warm sea and warm beaches in June, July and August. Unfortunately, it is also known for its crowded hotels, shops, restaurants and beaches. In April, May, September and October it is not too cold, not too hot, and there are no crowds.

Don’t leave home without: Your camera, and bring extra film or digital memory. The scenery is beautiful. Croatia’s coastline is picturesque, dotted with quaint seaport villages on the mainland and the islands.
