Getting your player ready...

Colorado schoolboy basketball will be sending another student-athlete to the Ivy League.

Elgin Fitzgerald of Palmer High School in Colorado Springs has orally committed to Dartmouth. Chaparral’s Nate Rohn- ert recently pledged to Yale.

Like Rohnert, Fitzgerald said the opportunity to get an education and play in the prestigious NCAA Division I conference was too good to pass.

“It just seemed like a really good school,” Fitzgerald said.

At 6-feet-9 and 240 pounds, Fitzgerald said the Big Green’s coaching staff in Hanover, N.H., will consider him for playing time at center or power forward.

The 2004-05 player of the year in the Colorado Springs Metro League who averaged nearly 24 points and 13 rebounds, Fitzgerald said his major probably will involve health. He is considering becoming a doctor, physical therapist or physical trainer.

Albany, Colgate, Idaho, Cal-Santa Barbara and Yale also showed interest in Fitzgerald.

“I liked (the Dartmouth) coaching staff, and they were talking to me about how I was high on their list,” Fitzgerald said.

Coming off a 10-17 season, the Big Green is coached by Terry Dunn, a former Harrison High coach and assistant at Air Force, Colorado and Colorado State.
