Craig Nessan lecture series|Craig Nessan, author, academic dean and professor of contextual theology at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, will give a lecture, “Worship and our Immersion in the Culture of God,” at 7 tonight at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave., Cherry Hills Village. Nessan will lecture at 9 a.m. Saturday on “Formation in Discipleship: Christian Education Today,” and “Becoming an Evangelizing Church: After the Death of Evangelism.” Nessan also will preach at the 8, 9 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Simchat Torah and consecration service|B’nai Chaim, a Reform Jewish Congregation, 13758 W. Marlowe Ave., Morrison, is having a Simchat Torah and Consecration service at 7:30 tonight. An Oneg Shabbat will follow.

Adult group discussion series on Isaac Luria|”Mystical Theology of Isaac Luria,” a two-part adult group discussion series, will be at 9 am. Oct. 29 and Nov. 12 at Temple Micah, 2600 Leyden St., Denver.

“Quest for Self” program|Todd Breyfogle, director of the university honors program at the University of Denver, will begin a four-part series, “The Quest for the Self; Bridging the Inner Divide,” at 9 a.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 690 Colorado Blvd.

Minister installation|The Rev. George C. Anastos will be installed as senior minister of First Plymouth Congregational Church United Church of Christ, 3501 S. Colorado Blvd., Englewood, at 4 p.m.

“20-Somethings” Bible study group| “God in Fiction” is the topic of the fall series for the “20-Somethings” study group, meeting from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Wellshire Presbyterian Church, 2999 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver.

Thursday

Prayer series|”The Spiritual Discipline of Prayer: Integrating Prayer into Our Everyday Lives,” a four-part series offered by University Park United Methodist Church, 2180 S. University Blvd., Denver, continues with “Celebratory Prayer,” at 6:45 p.m.

Nov. 4

“Shabbaton”|B’nai Chaim, a Reform Jewish congregation, 13758 W. Marlowe Ave., Morrison, is having a Shabbaton beginning at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 with a Shabbat service and continuing at 10 a.m. Nov. 5 with a Shabbat lunch, discussions, crafts and activities for adults, children and families. The Shabbaton will conclude with a spaghetti dinner served by the youth group at 6 p.m.

Faith-based environmental conference|The National Council of Churches and Eco-Justice Ministries is having a regional environmental conference, “Tending the Garden, Cultivating the Commons,” Nov. 4 and 5. David Hallman, climate change coordinator of the World Council of Churches, will give a free presentation at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia St., Denver. There will be workshops highlighting stewardship of public lands and global climate change from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5. Cost to attend the workshops, if registered before Nov. 1, is $25, (includes continental breakfast, lunch, and light snacks). After Nov. 1, the conference fees increase to $35.
