Sen. Wayne Allard:
“I respect Harriet Miers’ personal decision to withdraw her name as a nominee for the Supreme Court. I look forward to working with the White House on the selection of a new nominee.”
Sen. Ken Salazar:
“Last week I met with Ms. Miers. I respect her decision and her professional achievements. I do believe it is important for the Senate to have access to information about a nominee so we can make an informed consent.
“As the president considers another nominee I hope he selects someone who has demonstrated professional excellence as a lawyer or judge and who can command broad support in the Senate, be fair and impartial, uphold the rule of law and bring diversity to the bench.
“In response to Ms. Miers’ announcement I hope the president chooses to consult with the Senate to select a nominee who will best serve the Supreme Court and our nation.”
