Shawn Auer just wants to ask Martha Stewart one question. “Did you lie or not?” It’s part of his college project.
He’s a 30-year-old sociology student at CU- Boulder, and he’s not a big fan of the domestic goddess. That’s why he announced his intention of being the high bidder on Halloween Night’s online CharityBuzz.com celebrity auction in NYC. The No. 1 item on the block is a day with Stewart, titled “It’s a great thing.” The winner spends the day with the ex-con at her Bedford, N.Y., estate, then takes a jet with her to her Maine pad.
Auer was set to sell advertising on his clothing and have the day videotaped and aired to raise the expected $20,000-plus to win the item. At press time Monday, it had a bid of $9,000.
Auer’s quest took a hit Sunday from the NY Post’s Page Six gossip column. The item header was “MARTHA ENEMY IS BIDDER,” went on to call Auer the “stalkerish” founder of realmartha.com. and said he “promises to be unpleasant” if he wins.
“I don’t know where that comes from,” says Auer. “It’s totally unsupported. I’m not stalkerish, and I promised to provide an objective view of the day. I am not an enemy of (Martha), just what she represents, celebrity felons mocking the system.”
Auer is worried that being called “stalkerish” by the NY Post will discourage his sponsors. He thinks the NY Post may have doomed his quest to be her guest. If he wins the auction, we’ll hear more about it.
Glorious food
A moviemaking crew is coming to Colorado – not that you’d notice.
A story in Sunday’s NY Times says Richard Linklater, the director of “Slacker” and “School of Rock,” is making a feature-length adaptation of the book “Fast Food Nation.” Filming began last week in Texas, and he plans to hit Colorado next.
The movie is backed by big-bucks Jeff Skoll, co-founder of eBay.
Martin Cuff, director of the Colorado Film Commission, says all he knows is what he read in the NY Times. Pete Meersman at the Colorado Restaurant Association also has heard nothing. So if you see a Hollywood film crew in your neighborhood Wendy’s, let us know, OK?
