Take a scenic drive

One of Colorado’s first three scenic highways, and perhaps the most scenic and historic drives, is the Colorado State Scenic Byway – or Highway of Legends. The Byway stretches from La Veta to Trinidad, and takes the traveler through 22 communities, points of interest, scenic vistas, historical, cultural and recreational areas. A sister-city trip

Lakewood Sister Cities Program is hosting an informational meeting at 3 p.m. today at the Lakewood Library, 10200 W. 20th Ave. for its July trip to Portsmouth, England, and Paris. Participants may ride in the 21st annual Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride with more than 250 bicyclists from the Portsmouth area. All residents of Jefferson County are eligible. Up to 30 associates will spend a 14-day home-stay with residents of Portsmouth. The trip includes tours of the surrounding area, including trips to the D-Day museum, Southsea Beach and London. Any participant in the group can join the bicycle ride for a five-day, 400-mile, fully supported ride into Paris and back along the River Seine. Clay Fair in Santa Fe K

Venture to Santa Fe on Friday for the Contemporary Clay Fair beginning at noon. Some 20 members of the statewide organization will exhibit their most recent ceramic work. Japanese Bazaar

Manitou Springs is the site for the Japanese Bazaar and Cultural Festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Business of Arts Center, 515 Manitou Ave. The festival will feature Japanese dances, a kimono fashion show, koto music and taiko drum performances. Vendors will sell a variety of Japanese foods as well as washi paper crafts, obi (kimono) sash creations, bonsai trees and pottery. There will be entertainment and food.

Native American month

Celebrate Native American Awareness Month as you learn the art of basket weaving with Linda Aguilar, renowned basket weaver and artist, 1:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Fort Collins Museum, 200 Mathews St. The classes are for ages 8 and older. Christmas nostalgia

Venture to Steamboat Springs 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Nov. 19 for “Christmas Through the Ages” to make Christmas gifts wrapped with a historical flair. Yampatika, the area’s natural and cultural organization, produces this holiday decorating event that reflects on the last hundred years of Christmases in northwest Colorado. Families with children over 8 can join Deborah Fuller for a demonstration of decorating from a historical perspective. Yampatika is at 925 Weiss Drive in the Forest Service building.
