The men’s and women’s Adams State College cross country teams, top-ranked in Division II, swept the team titles and won 13 all-region honors at the NCAA Division II North Central Regional championships Saturday at Fort Hays (Kan.) State.
Led by women’s individual winner Victoria Martinez, the Grizzlies placed seven of the top 12 finishers and dominated the race with a low 25 points. Western State, ranked No. 8, finished second at 72.
The Grizzlies men’s team had five of the top 11 finishers and six of the top 14 for 29 points. No. 3 Western State finished second with 37.
Adams State and Western State both qualified for the Division II national championships Nov. 19 in Chino, Calif.
Colorado Mines finished third in men’s and women’s competition, and also qualified.
The No. 21 South Dakota women’s team and 18th-ranked Minnesota State men’s team also qualified from the North Central Regional.
UNC women finish season on high note
The University of Northern Colorado women’s soccer team finished its season with a 2-1 victory over Francis Marion at the Kennesaw State Soccer Classic in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Bears (7-9-2) closed the season with back-to-back wins to finish with their most victories since reclassifying to Division I.
