Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz muses on his pop-culture influences and indulgences.
Music biz: Jay-Z’s not a businessman. He’s a business, man! Jay-Z has always been at the top of his game. I have so much respect for that man. Not only is he one of the best rappers of all time, but everything he touches turns to gold. He runs a record label, owns the 40/40 club, has his own sneaker line … you name it, he’s done it.
I look up to that. I have my own record label, Decaydance, which I’ve signed Panic! At the Disco, Gym Class Heroes, October Fall and other bands to. I’ve also started Clandestine Industries, a clothing line.
Snacks: When you’re on the road for more than 300 days a year, there are certain foods that you always have to have. Strawberry Uncrustables are that food for me. It’s my version of comfort food on the road. When I’m home, its Mom’s French toast, but on the road, Uncrustables definitely do the trick.
Film: “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” is my favorite “Star Wars” movie of all time. The “Star Wars” series in general has become such a huge part of the American culture. Our band is absolutely obsessed with it. There is always a “Star Wars” movie in regular rotation on our tour bus, but “Revenge of the Sith” is my favorite. I’m big on movies that have cult-like followings.
Music: Panic! At the Disco is a young, fresh band out of Vegas that writes songs – like the ones on its new CD, “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” – that I want to live inside. It’s always exciting to come across a new band that inspires you. They’re also on tour with us, so I get to watch them live everyday. Their CD definitely makes my list of favorites for the year.
Video games: Right now it seems like our world is revolving around video games. We are on the Nintendo Fusion Tour, so video games are definitely always on the brain. And our music is featured on “Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland” along with My Chemical Romance and Thrice. You never really think about the fact that your music might get used in video games and movies, but when it happens it’s really exciting.
Coffee: Starbuck’s Caramel Macchiato – my life just wouldn’t be the same without them. Seriously. My daily routine includes finding the closest Starbucks to get my Machiatto fix.
Clothing: Fingerless gloves with mitten attachments are essential in the wintertime. Winter is coming up really fast, so I’m already starting to think about staying warm. Fingerless mitten-gloves are so practical because you don’t have to keep pulling them off and on. These should be on everyone’s must-have list.
Fall Out Boy headlines the sold-out Nintendo Fusion Tour on Wednesday at the Fillmore Auditorium, also featuring The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack, Boys Night Out and Panic! At the Disco. Any last-minute ticket releases will be available via Ticketmaster.
