Air Force Academy – Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry gave his staff a pat on the back Tuesday, despite the fact this season’s team could finish with the worst record since he became head coach in 1984.
“I think I’ve got the best coaching staff I’ve ever had,” DeBerry said Tuesday as his team works through a bye week before ending the season Nov. 19 at New Mexico.
“I lot of people think so, but the record doesn’t always reflect the coaching staff. It’s good players who make good coaches. I hope all of my coaches are coming back.”
DeBerry’s remarks came a day after athletic director Hans Mueh made public his vote of confidence for DeBerry. The Falcons are 3-7 heading into their final game of the season. None of DeBerry’s past 21 teams has finished with fewer than four victories.
“I plan to be here,” DeBerry said. “I have a contract, and it’s my understanding the decision is mine.”
DeBerry confirmed he will re-examine many issues about his program when the season concludes. He maintained that is the procedure he has followed every year.
