A Denver firefighter was injured while responding to an overnight blaze at one of Denver’s oldest churches.

The fire started around 4 a.m. in the back of the Sacred Heart Church at 27th and Larimer. It spread to the rear of the church behind its boiler room.

The injured firefighter dislocated his shoulder when he fell through a hole in the floor that was not related to the fire.

The church was built in 1879. It did not sustain extensive damage from the fire.
