West Point, N.Y. – Army goalie Brad Roberts stopped all 26 shots he faced as Army shut out Air Force 3-0 on Friday night in a nonconference game.
Army (1-7-1, 0-3-1 Atlantic Hockey) earned its 1,000th win in program history.
In a penalty-filled first period, Army took the lead on a 5-on-3 power-play goal on Seth Beamer’s tip past Air Force goalie Peter Foster.
Air Force (2-7-0, 1-1-0 College Hockey America) spent most of the second period on the penalty kill. Army had a five-minute power play and three minutes of two-man advantage but the Falcons didn’t allow a goal.
Early in the third period, Chris Bilec scored from in front of the net for a 2-0 Army lead. The Black Knights put it away with 2:32 left on a power-play, empty-net goal by Beamer.
“The best team won tonight,” coach Frank Serratore said. “When they get a lead, they clog up the ice and they are very difficult to play against. You just have to find a way to score blue-collar goals and get it done, and we didn’t. Roberts was the best player on the ice.”
