Marketing chief leaving Qwest
The top marketing and communications executive at Denver-based Qwest is leaving Nov. 23 to take a job in Chicago.
Joan Walker, executive vice president of marketing, was brought in by Qwest chief executive Richard Notebaert when he took over 3 1/2 years ago. She said she’s leaving for family reasons, and will take a senior executive position with an undisclosed Chicago company.
Walker, who had worked with Notebaert when he was the head of Chicago-based phone company Ameritech, was part of a team committed to reshaping the company’s image after the firing of former CEO Joe Nacchio amid federal investigations of the company’s accounting.
Festival will show DIA short movies
The people who brought independent film to Denver International Airport will be highlighted this week at the Starz Denver International Film Festival.
Five short movies made by Denver filmmakers, including “Big Blue Bear” by D. Junge and D. Coombe, will be screened at the Starz Film Center on Sunday and Nov. 20. Artists featured are Shannon Kelly, Christopher Bagley, Casey Koehler, Michael White and Zachary Maness. General admission costs $10.
The five films also are being shown on the Concourse A mezzanine.
The airport project was created with a 1998 grant from cable company TCI to create a unique film for DIA. Young filmmakers were asked to incorporate a “journey” theme into their projects, which was also the theme for 26 public art projects at DIA. Five finalists were commissioned to create 10-minute films for DIA.
eBags site matches shoes and handbags
Greenwood Village-based eBags Inc. has launched a website that its leaders say is the first to use technology to match shoes with handbags.
The company launched a beta version of 6pm.com last week and will officially unveil the website Monday night. The site replaces the company’s existing shoe website, Shoedini.com.
The 6pm.com system is based on a series of algorithms that determines, based on color and material, whether shoes and bags will coordinate.
