SWEET-NATURED
Alida’s Fruits
On East Orchard Mesa,
3402 C 1/2 Road, Palisade
Along with Enstrom’s famous almond toffee, Grand Junction can be justly proud of the preserves put up by longtime grower Robert “Farmer Bob” Helmer and his wife, Alida. Their jams, relishes, syrups, ice cream toppings, pie fillings and signature peach salsas – plus to-die-for chocolate-dipped dried fruits – are available year-round at their country market, alidasfruits.com and lately at an in-town store at 577 Main St. in Grand Junction.
SCREEN SHOTS
Community Screen Printing Shop
Capsule Gallery
554 Santa Fe Drive, Denver
If the silk-screening techniques you learned in seventh-grade yearbook class didn’t quite stick, you can learn it all again in a two-evening introductory workshop taught by Denver screen-printing luminary Brandon Borchert on Tuesday and Nov. 22. If you like it, you might end up a member of the shop, where $50 a month will get you access to the studio – tables, a drying area, wash out, storage and a four-armed press – pretty much whenever you want it. Bring your own screens and inks (water-based and nontoxic, please). Sign up at pod1@qwest.net or 303-623-3460.
VIRTUAL EXPRESSIONISM
Clyfford Still Museum online
Still wondering who Still is? Bookmark this just-launched website from the folks spearheading Denver’s new Clyfford Still art museum, set for design and construction over the next four years. The site already has some samples of the abstract expressionist’s work and will post updates on the search for an architect and exhibition plans.
