Greenwood Village-based eBags Inc. has launched a new website that its leaders say is the first to use technology to match shoes with handbags.
The company launched a beta version of 6pm.com this week and will officially unveil the website Monday night. The site replaces the company’s existing shoe website, Shoedini.com.
“We’ve spent the last year building custom technology,” said Peter Cobb, co-founder and vice president of marketing for eBags. “The beauty of 6pm is getting them together. If you find a bag, you get six pages of six perfect matches.”
The 6pm.com system is based on a series of algorithms that determines based on color and material whether shoes and bags will coordinate. The site also allows users to rate each match, and higher-ranked matches will be shown to customers first.
EBags acquired Shoedini.com and relaunched the site in June 2004. Today, the Shoedini business represents just 25 percent of eBags sales, but Cobb predicts that could grow following the launch of 6pm.
“The 6pm.com initiative will be equal to and possibly even surpass eBags.com in sales in three to five years,” Cobb said.
Privately held eBags declined to say what its sales were last year except to say that revenues have increased 45 percent over the previous year.
