Steve Leven scored 16 points, and Justin Williams had 20 rebounds and nine blocked shots to lead Wyoming to an 87-78 victory over Charlotte on Tuesday for third place in the Black Coaches Association Invitational in Laramie.

The 49ers (1-2) trailed the Cowboys (2-1) by as much as 67-48 about midway through the second half. But Charlotte got back into the game with help from four 3-pointers by Curtis Withers.

Charlotte narrowed the deficit to 82-77 on a 3-pointer by De’Angelo Alexander and a basket by Withers. Wyoming, meanwhile, made only 1-of-8 free throws.

Each team made 1-of-2 free throws to make the score 83-78. The 49ers then called timeout, but they had none left, sending Leven to the line to make two.

Brandon Jones added two more free throws for Wyoming for the final score.
