Air Force Academy – Dan Nwaelele scored 15 points and Antoine Hood added 14 on Saturday as Air Force routed Division II Colorado-Colorado Springs 77-45.
Andrew Henke had 10 points for Air Force (3-1). The Falcons were 13-for-31 on 3-pointers.
Patrick Hannaway led UCCS (0-2) with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Leo Thomas and Bly McGwire had 10 points each for the Mountain Lions, who have yet to beat Air Force in five meetings.
Nwaelele was 3-for-3 on 3-pointers and Air Force was 8-for-14 overall from beyond the arc to build a commanding 41-20 lead at halftime. UCCS was held scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the game and fell behind 19-4 on Henke’s 3-pointer.
Baskets by Thomas and Mc- Gwire for UCCS trimmed the lead to 26-14 with 8:59 left. But Hood had a 3-pointer and a three-point play in a 15-6 run for Air Force.
UCCS played on even terms for the first seven minutes of the second half, with Hannaway’s jumper making it 50-29. It didn’t score again for five minutes, and Henke’s 3-pointer keyed a 13-0 run to put Air Force ahead 63-29.
