Sacramento – Teens really do know more when it comes to technology and the Internet.

U.S. teens – ages 12 to 17 – are one-third more likely than adults to use the Internet; 2 1/2 times more likely to play games online; and almost three times as likely to blog or download music.

This age divide is not expected to close.

“Electronic technology has revolutionized our culture, and teens are in a position to take advantage of that more than adults, because adults are set in their ways and teens are constantly learning,” said Hank Becker, an education professor at the University of California, Irvine.

Studies by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, a nonprofit group that researches the social effects of the Internet, have proved teens have superior technological savvy.

And for some reason, older teenage girls – ages 15 to 17 – tend to be the most-frequent users of e-mail, text messaging and research tools for health and entertainment information.
