The fashion industry has hailed the return of the pouf skirt and is touting the dress as a must-have item for next spring. But try telling that to the 1,400-some patrons attending the recent Women’s Foundation of Colorado luncheon – a veritable who’s-who of women in business, government and philanthropy.
They wore the pants. In droves. From the emcee, KCNC-Channel 4’s Brooke Wagner (who wore a red wool pantsuit), to Gretchen
McComb, president and CEO of the foundation (sporting a gray jacket and slacks), trousers were the top choice of those attending the organization’s fundraiser.
Attendees said they like the comfort, practicality and warmth of trousers, just as men do. And they hate pantyhose. “I live in pantsuits,” said Heather Miller of UMB Financial.
Even some of those who wore skirts to the function admitted that look isn’t usually their first choice. “I always wear pants,” said writer Kelly A. Berger. “So I thought I’d be different today and wear a skirt.”
