Western State fires football coaches
Western State fired head football coach Jeff Zenisek and assistant coaches Josh Fetter and Kevin Propernick on Tuesday. The Mountaineers were 22-32 in Zenisek’s five seasons, including 2-9 overall and 2-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this season.
DU’s Nicholson picks up Sun Belt honor
The University of Denver’s Yemi Nicholson has been named the season’s first Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball player of the week. Nicholson helped the Pioneers to the BP Top of the World championship last weekend, with eight blocked shots in Sunday’s 52-48 overtime win over Illinois-Chicago.
DU swimming and diving team signs three
Jeff Giddens (Carlsbad, Calif.), Olivia Dean (Aurora) and Amanda McNally (Lone Tree) have signed national letters of intent to attend the University of Denver and join the swimming and diving team, coach Jim Henry said.
Metro State’s Williamson grabs weekly honor
Metro State’s Drew Williamson has been named the RMAC men’s basketball player of the week for the East Division. Williamson scored 45 points with 10 steals and nine rebounds in the Roadrunners’ wins over St. Gregory’s and Westmont College last weekend.
