The Nebraska Cornhuskers turned up the noise Tuesday as they prepared for Friday’s game at Colorado.

The Cornhuskers practiced for two hours with simulated crowd noise blaring from Memorial Stadium’s loud speakers.

“It really helps,” coach Bill Callahan said. “When that crowd noise is cranked up, it really helps us keep our focus and concentration. It makes them communicate, which is tough with the noise.”

Offensive tackle Seppo Evwaraye, who has been battling a foot injury, might be able to play some against the Buffaloes, Callahan said.

But another injured tackle, Cornealius Fuamatu-Thomas, will not travel with the team because he had season-ending shoulder surgery Monday, Callahan said.

The Huskers (6-4) will finish their game-week preparations for Colorado today.

Meanwhile, Colorado is among the 16 teams under consideration for a spot in the Bowl Championship Series. BCS officials released the list of teams still in the running to play in college football’s four marquee bowl games.

The Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the final BCS standings Dec. 4 play in the Rose Bowl for the national title. The Fiesta and Sugar bowls will be played Jan. 2. The Orange Bowl will be played Jan. 3.

The champions of the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10 and Southeastern conferences automatically qualify for a BCS game, and there are two at-large berths available.

Penn State already has clinched the Big Ten’s bid and Southern California is an automatic qualifier from the Pac-10.

Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon and UCLA are eligible for an at-large berth.

The other teams that can earn an automatic bid as a conference champion or an at-large bid are: Florida State, Miami and Virginia Tech from the ACC; Pittsburgh, South Florida and West Virginia from the Big East; Iowa State and Texas from the Big 12; and Auburn, Georgia and LSU from the SEC.
