Steve Leven and Daaron Brown each scored 16 points to help lift Wyoming to an 83-70 win over Northern Colorado on Tuesday night in Laramie.
The Cowboys outscored the Bears 17-8 to pull away from a 37-31 halftime lead and never trailed again. Leven had six of Wyoming’s final eight points.
Michael Gordy scored six straight as UNC went on an 8-0 run with 11:44 to go, but the Bears (0-4) couldn’t get closer than 62-57 during the second half.
Chris Anderson had a double-double for the Cowboys (3-1) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Brad Jones added 14 points, and Brandon Ewing scored 11.
Sean Taibi led UNC with 16 points and Dwayne Birden added 11 points and eight rebounds.
UNC jumped out to a 15-10 lead early in the first half in which the Bears made 6-of-10 3-pointers. But Leven scored eight straight points in a 10-2 run that put the Cowboys up 22-17.
WOMEN
Colorado State 83, Concordia-St. Paul 69
The Colorado State women beat Concordia-St. Paul to open the season in Fort Collins.
Vanessa Espinoza scored 14 points, including nine in the first half, to leave the Rams up by four at the half.
In the second half, Colorado State outscored the Golden Bears 48-38 behind eight points from Casie Shepherd, who scored a career-high 14 points.
Regis 67, Seattle 50
Guard Diana Lopez scored 34 points, grabbed nine rebounds and added six steals and three blocked shots in Regis’ road victory.
Lopez, the 2004-05 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the year, went 8-for-15 from the field, making three from 3-point range.
Lindsay Viall added 13 points and five assists for the Rangers, and Aiste Slenyte scored 11, but the Redhawks held Denise Lopez, who entered the game averaging 15.3 points and 9.8 rebounds, to just one point and three rebounds.
Seattle was led by Amanda Kerr, who scored 11 points. Ashley Brown added nine and Ashley Payne scored seven.
