A Northwest Airlines A320 Airbus traveling from Detroit to Denver International Airport on Wednesday had problems with its landing gear shortly before arriving at the airport.

“Flight 1221 experienced an issue while lowering the landing gear,” said Northwest spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch. He would not speculate on the cause but said, “The crew was able to resolve the issue.”

Jake Swartz, 15, of Denver was traveling on the plane Wednesday when he noticed the plane speed up after it had slowed down while preparing to land.

“The plane started accelerating really quickly,” Swartz said.

Swartz said the pilots had advised passengers of the problem during the flight, so none of them panicked.

“No one really reacted much, but some were startled by the acceleration,” Swartz said.

In September, a JetBlue A320 carrying 146 people made an emergency landing safely at Los Angeles International Airport after the front landing gear stuck with the wheels turned 90 degrees.
