Denver architect Don Ruggles designs homes with an eye toward fitting them into the surrounding landscape.
In Grand Junction, for example, he designed an S-shaped horizontal home that curves with the landscape. But Cherry Hills lent itself to a more Old World crafted look.
Ruggles, president of D.H. Ruggles & Associates, has traveled the world to study architecture, conducting research in Mexico, Japan, Italy, France, Spain and the United States.
Traditionally, Ruggles’ firm has focused on multimillion-dollar homes. It spent nine months implementing a system to design houses using a three-dimensional modeling program. Now, he’s using the same technology to design more-affordable homes.
“It’s about giving back,” Ruggles said. “We’re taking the same ideas and applying them to smaller houses.”
