The Regis men won their first basketball game of the season Monday night, beating Johnson & Wales 77-55 in their home opener at the Regis Fieldhouse.

Slade Bigelow scored 17 points and the Rangers held Johnson & Wales (0-6) to 22 points in the first half for a 35-22 lead.

Bigelow added five rebounds and two steals.

Logan Garvin added 12 points, and Brandon Butler and Jay Goral each scored 11.

Regis (1-2) forced 22 turnovers and had 18 steals, and posted its big lead at the 4:30 of the second half when Butler converted a steal from Nick Winder into a layup to put the Rangers up by 28 points at 74-46.

Regis plays Friday and Saturday at the Chuck Stephens Memorial Classic at CSU-Pueblo.

Women

Kansas State 65, Wyoming 55

Laramie – Junior guard Claire Coggins scored 23 points to lead Kansas State to a victory over Wyoming. Wildcats center JoAnn Hamlin scored 10 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Kansas State (3-0) shot 51 percent from the field while holding Wyoming to 36.4 percent.

Hanna Zavecz, a sophomore from Australia, led the Cowgirls with 14 points, and senior Michelle Taylor and freshman Megan McGuffey each had 12. McGuffey led Wyoming (2-1) in rebounds with six.
