World Cup races
FIS Women’s Alpine World Cup Races are coming to Aspen Friday-Dec. 11. The Aspen Winternational tradition continues when Olympic favorites and hopefuls descend on Aspen for a weekend of action and entertainment. The fastest women in the world will compete to garner international notoriety before heading off to the World Games in Italy in February. Racing kicks off on Friday with the women’s super G, followed by the women’s GS on Saturday and the women’s slalom on Sunday. Snowshoe routes
Alan Apt, author of “Snowshoe Routes: Colorado’s Front Range,” will present a slide show at REI Denver, 1416 Platte St., at 7 p.m. Dec. 15. Apt is an active snowshoer, climber, skier and backpacker who has lived near the Front Range for more than 25 years. He will explore the best local snowshoe routes for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels, from beginners and families with young children to experienced mountaineers. Admission is free. Films in Steamboat
Steamboat Mountain’s Film Festival returns Dec. 16-18 with a collection of outdoor adventure films from around the world. The festival will showcase the talents of more than 20 independent filmmakers, with a special children’s film screening and afternoon seminars on action sports photography and cinematography, screenwriting, film editing and film production. A full festival pass may be purchased for $49 and includes entry to seminars, matinees and all evening feature presentations, including the Northwest Colorado Outdoor Action Film Contest. Royal Gorge passports
Royal Gorge Bridge & Park, Cañon City, is offering an adult half-price season passport for visitors of all ages. A $30 adult ticket is $15 and is good for one year from the date of purchase. The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park, open 365 days, features the world’s highest suspension bridge at 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River, the world’s steepest incline railway, and the world’s longest single-span aerial tram.
