A Christmas tree hunt
turned into a six-hour hunt
Sunday after a Denver woman
got lost in the snow-covered
Pike National Forest.
The 40-year-old woman
was found cold but otherwise
fine about 9 p.m. a mile or
two from a search command
post that had been set up by
the Alpine Rescue Team, said
Bill Barwick, spokesman for
the team.
The command post was
south of Buffalo Creek near
Wellington Lake, between
Pine Junction and Deckers in
south Jefferson County.
Barwick said the woman,
whose name was not released,
got separated about 3
p.m. from family and friends
who were on a Christmas
tree-cutting outing in the designated
cutting area of the national
forest.
“She just got powerful confused
and didn’t know what
direction she was going, Barwick”
said.
After briefly looking for the
woman, her party notified
the sheriff she was missing,
and the Alpine Rescue Team,
with headquarters in Evergreen,
was notified at 4:13
p.m., Barwick said.
About two dozen team
members responded and conducted
the search, he said.
