Falcons lose point guard to surgery
Lauren Henderson, the starting point guard for the Air Force women’s basketball team, is expected to miss two to three weeks of play after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, the team said Wednesday.
Henderson leads the Falcons with a team-high 11.4 points per game and 5.2 assists per game. Air Force is 4-1, its best Division I start.
CU’s Griffin earns all-region volleyball honor
Allie Griffin, a senior on the University of Colorado volleyball team, was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association all-Central Region first team. Ashley Nu’u, a junior from Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, was named honorable mention.
Pioneers land Canada’s top golfer
The University of Denver women’s golf team signed Canada’s top junior golfer, Stephanie Sherlock of Barrie, Ontario, to a letter of intent, coach Sammie Chergo said.
Sherlock is the highest-ranked junior player in Canada and placed third at the 2005 Canadian Women’s Championship and the 2005 Canadian Junior Girls Championship. She is ranked No. 23 in the class of 2006 by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and was recently named to the 2006 Canadian women’s national team, the highest honor for female golfers in Canada.
