Colorado football coach Gary Barnett will resign tonight at a 6:30 p.m. news conference at the Coors Event Center. A source close to Barnett said the coach reached a $3 million settlement with CU to offer his resignation.

Athletic director Mike Bohn met with the football team late Thursday afternoon before the press conference to tell the players of the decision.

The Post first reported in Wednesday’s edition that Barnett would be ousted, according to a source close to the negotiations.

Barnett had a 49-38 record in seven seasons at Colorado and his team won four of the past five Big 12 North division titles.

Word of his impending departure came days after an embarrassing loss to Texas as part of a lopsided three-game losing streak, and a recruiting scandal last year that led to the departure of CU’s athletic director, chancellor and president.
