The body of a woman was found Tuesday morning after her boyfriend called police and told them that he had killed her, authorities said.
A man in his 20s called police about 7 a.m. from a parking lot at the Pepsi Center and told them about the crime, police said. He was later arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police went to the 2500 block of South Cook Street and found a dead woman, also in her 20s. Authorities declined to say how she was killed.
“They did know each other,” said Denver police Detective Virginia Lopez. “This was not a random act of violence.”
Neighbors who live around the green and white split-level home either did not know what happened or they declined to talk about the family.
Television reports indicated the dead woman was a live-in nanny and the family she works for was home at the time of the incident.
The family declined to comment when contacted by cellphone late Tuesday.
The house where the victim was found had a large wreath on the front door and a Christmas tree in the front window.
The names of the victim and her suspected killer were unavailable late Tuesday.
The investigation led detectives to a place along Interstate 25 at exit 191 in Douglas County. Investigators were looking for evidence related to the case but Lopez could not say whether anything was found.
