A little more than a week after withdrawing his oral commitment to Colorado, Mullen linebacker Rick Brewer committed to sign with Colorado State. His teammate, safety Josh Dorsey, also committed to the Rams.

During a recruiting trip to Fort Collins last weekend, Brewer said he decommitted from CU before Gary Barnett’s firing because he thought it was an unstable situation.

“I don’t like unstable situations,” Brewer said.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound linebacker is projected by Mullen coach Dave Logan as an outside linebacker in CSU’s 4-3 scheme.

“Ricky is energetic. He’s a fun kid to be around. He plays hard on every snap,” Logan said. “He’ll be a 220-pound kid who can run. He’s a big-time hitter. He’ll play on special teams and do whatever he has to do for the team.”

Although Logan described Dorsey (6-1, 180 pounds) as more introverted, the coach said: “He’s a hard-working safety. He’s a good tackler and a smart kid. He’s going to be a good player at CSU.”

CSU had its only midweek practice Tuesday, with final exams keeping the Rams off the field until Friday. CSU will practice Saturday with a Sunday departure for San Diego for the Dec. 22 Poinsettia Bowl.
