Veterans got a chance to learn what it takes to launch or expand a business at a conference Tuesday put on by the Colorado Small Business Development Center Network and the Veterans Corp.

Counselors offered advice on veteran specific benefits, loan programs, the steps needed to start a business and other matters at the one-day conference at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in downtown Denver.

About 145 people attended the event, most of them business owners, said Kelly Manning, state director of the SBDC Network, a division of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade.

Workshops and counseling sessions gave participants “the actual nitty-gritty of what you need to do” to be successful in business, Manning said.

Among the workshops was one that focused on business websites and what is needed to make them effective.

The Network, which worked with the nonprofit Veterans Corp., plans to make the conference an annual event.

“A lot of veterans don’t know what is available to them,” Manning said.

The workshop was open to veterans, their dependents, spouses and even the employees of veteran-owned businesses.
