Nuggets first-year guard Earl Watson didn’t let trade rumors stop him from showing his Christmas spirit Monday. Through Rocky Mountain Relief, Watson hosted a holiday party at a downtown hotel for families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Watson and the Magic Johnson Foundation provided gifts and clothing that more than fulfilled each family’s Christmas wish list. Monday marked the first time Watson met the families. He said he hopes to eventually make a “major impact” on one family long-term.
“My whole thing is I just want to go ahead and help a family have a Christmas,” Watson said. “I think it’s the most special time of year, especially for a child.”
Watson has been mentioned in trade rumors, but said he didn’t want that to distract from lending a helping hand whether he soon would be off to another team or not. “Some guys do things, some guys don’t. A lot of people do a lot of things in this league. There are a lot of good people,” he said.
