New criminal charges were filed Tuesday against Jason Reynolds, who already is facing first-degree murder charges in a separate road-rage incident that killed two men.
The additional charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving were filed in Arapahoe County Court after Colorado State Patrol officers said Reynolds reportedly smelled of marijuana when they arrested him on Dec. 12.
Reynolds, 32, of Parker is being held in Douglas County Jail instead of the jail in Arapahoe County to avoid an appearance of conflict – his father is an Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy.
C.J. Reynolds works in the Arapahoe County Jail and has been a deputy since 1985, said Sheriff Grayson Robinson.
The elder Reynolds has declined requests for interviews on the advice of his legal counsel, Robinson said.
Reynolds’ sister, Christina Reynolds, reportedly is a San Diego County sheriff’s deputy in California. A deputy named Christina Reynolds works for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, authorities said, but she could not be reached for comment.
Jason Reynolds is accused of killing Kelvin Norman and Greg Boss in a Nov. 8 wreck along E-470.
Investigators said Reynolds was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler westbound when his vehicle collided with Norman’s 1997 Toyota 4Runner. The Toyota crossed the center median and crashed into a 2005 Ford Explorer driven by Boss.
